Mobility Aids & Walkers

Not getting around the home as well as you used too?
Finding that you’re not as confident to get out and about?
Having difficulty carrying the items you need?

We can help!  Melbourne Occupational Therapy Services believes there is a right time and wrong time to introduce a person to using a mobility aid, walking stick or walker.   The correct mobility aid should help to increase confidence and activity.

Go to our ‘Contact & Referral’ page, email us your details and we will contact you.

Did you know many people we see using walkers, trolleys and walking sticks are not using them correctly? –  This can result in a nasty event, like a fall, poor balance, postural deformity or mobility that is worse than before!

What we do

1/ We assess you.  We look at your abilities and any medical, age-related or functional issues you may have.  We need to find out what you need to be able to do.  Introducing a mobility aid can change someone’s walking (gait) pattern. We will make sure you are getting the right mobility aid at the right stage of your life

2/ We assess your environment.  The mobility aid needs to fit both you and your home. Sometimes we need different mobility aids for indoors and outdoors.

3/ We then adjust the mobility aid. Most importantly, we teach you how to use it safely to walk, get on/off furniture, get up & down steps and use it outside
